The
Liver Research Trust
was established in 1972 to support and promote research into liver
diseases, both within its own Institute of Hepatology and also in
collaborative projects with universities and research institutes
in the UK and overseas. The Institute of Hepatology was officially
opened by HRH The Princess Royal in October 1998 and is located
in its own building within the main biomedical campus of UCL. The
research team now numbers 30 scientists and doctors including overseas
research fellows from Australia, Bulgaria, China, Egypt, France,
Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Italy, Iran, Japan and Korea. Nine core
staff are funded by The Trust and as a measure of the Institute’s
success to date, it has attracted research grants for specific projects
totalling £1.5million.
The
Consortium for Street Children;
is
a network of British development agencies and individuals who have
come together to provide a collaborative and co-ordinated response
to the needs of street and working children globally.
It has 35 members
who between them provide funding, training and/or advocacy for street
children projects in 41 countries.
Launched in
the UK with the support of the Prime Minister, the consortium has,
through it's extensive networks, some of the highest levels of experience
and information on the street living and working children of the
world.
