The Liver Research Trust
was established in 1972 to support and promote research into liver diseases, both within its own Institute of Hepatology and also in collaborative projects with universities and research institutes in the UK and overseas. The Institute of Hepatology was officially opened by HRH The Princess Royal in October 1998 and is located in its own building within the main biomedical campus of UCL. The research team now numbers 30 scientists and doctors including overseas research fellows from Australia, Bulgaria, China, Egypt, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Italy, Iran, Japan and Korea. Nine core staff are funded by The Trust and as a measure of the Institute’s success to date, it has attracted research grants for specific projects totalling £1.5million
